About
Based on an ancient legend and the novel by Alexandre Dumas, this musical retelling is a tale of buried truth, mending hearts, and the cost of loyalty.
A forgotten prisoner named Philippe awaits the end of his suffering as an iron mask is sealed upon his face. When the aging Three Musketeers uncover that he is the secret twin of Louis XIV, they risk everything on a desperate, bloodless gamble: to replace the tyrant king with the brother he has condemned to darkness.
Around them, the court seethes with ambition and fracture: a grieving lover bent on vengeance against the king who stole her future, a Spanish princess torn between duty and contentment, a queen pursuing a quiet and dangerous design, and a once-noble ally who clings to honor even as it binds him to a corrupt crown.
This original musical features a book, lyrics, and music by Austin Cappetta, offering a faithful yet expanded adaptation that utilizes the full scope of Dumas’s characters while deepening the voices and agency of its women.
The question remains: when the mask is lifted, who is truly fit to wear the crown and rise as the Sun King?
